Inground Pool Installation in Maryland & Pennsylvania

Floyd Contracting builds inground swimming pools across Maryland and Pennsylvania, bringing the same 25+ years of construction experience to every inground project that has made us the region’s preferred above-ground installer.

Whether you are planning a fiberglass shell, a gunite build, or a vinyl liner inground pool, our team manages excavation, plumbing, equipment installation, and finish work from a single point of contact.

Fiberglass Pools

Fiberglass pools arrive as a pre-formed shell and install faster than any other inground option — most builds are swimming within weeks rather than months. The non-porous surface resists algae, which means lower chemical use and less brushing over the life of the pool.

Floyd Contracting handles the full fiberglass installation process including excavation, shell setting, backfill, plumbing, and surrounding hardscape.

Gunite & Concrete Pools

When your design calls for a shape, depth, or feature set that a pre-formed shell cannot deliver, gunite is the answer.

Gunite pools are formed on site, which means unlimited design flexibility — tanning ledges, vanishing edges, integrated spas, custom steps, and depths built around how your family actually swims.

Our crews handle steel placement, gunite application, tile and coping, and plaster finish.

Vinyl Liner Inground Pools

A vinyl liner inground pool delivers the look and depth of a custom build at a lower entry cost, with a smooth surface that is comfortable underfoot. Liners are replaceable, giving you the option to refresh the look of your pool years down the road.

As the preferred warranty repair company for most liner manufacturers, Floyd Contracting is equipped to install and service vinyl liner pools for their full lifespan.

What to Expect From Your Inground Pool Project

Every inground pool we build follows the same disciplined process: a site evaluation and design consultation, permitting guidance with your local Planning & Zoning Committee, precise excavation and grading, structural installation, equipment and plumbing setup, and a full walkthrough of operation and maintenance before we leave.

We coordinate the surrounding work as well — pool decks, patios, and outdoor kitchens — so your backyard is finished as one project rather than three.

FAQs

What are the benefits of choosing an above-ground pool over an in-ground pool?

Above-ground pools are typically more affordable and quicker to install than in-ground pools. They also offer flexibility in placement and can be disassembled or relocated if needed. Additionally, they often require less maintenance and can be a suitable option for yards with limited space or specific zoning restrictions.

What permits are required for installing an above-ground pool in Maryland or Pennsylvania?

Permit requirements vary by locality. Homeowners should contact their local Planning & Zoning Committee to determine specific pool codes, setback requirements, and other regulations applicable to their area. Floyd Contracting can assist in understanding these requirements during the planning process.

Can an existing above-ground pool be replaced using the same site?

Yes, Floyd Contracting can remove your old pool and install a new one using the existing site. Additional charges may apply if modifications are needed to match existing decks or if the pool is partially sunk and requires restructuring.

How often should I test my pool water?

It’s recommended to test your pool water at least once a week. Regular testing helps maintain balanced water chemistry, ensuring a safe and comfortable swimming environment. After heavy usage or significant rainfall, additional testing may be necessary.

What is the average cost of installing an above-ground pool?

The cost of installing an above-ground pool varies based on factors such as pool size, materials, site conditions, and additional features like decking or landscaping. It’s best to contact Floyd Contracting directly for a customized quote tailored to your specific needs and site conditions.

Does Floyd Contracting offer pool landscaping services?

Yes, Floyd Contracting provides pool landscaping services to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your pool area. Their team collaborates with homeowners to design and implement landscaping features that complement the pool, considering functionality, maintenance, and visual appeal.

What should I do if my pool liner is damaged?

If your pool liner is damaged, it’s essential to address the issue promptly to prevent further complications. Floyd Contracting offers liner replacement services, ensuring a proper fit and seal to maintain your pool’s integrity.

When is the best time to open my pool for the season?

The optimal time to open your pool is when average daily temperatures consistently reach 70°F or higher. Opening your pool at this time helps maintain proper water chemistry and ensures a comfortable swimming environment.

What steps should I take to winterize my above-ground pool?

Proper winterization protects your pool from damage during colder months.

 Winterizing your pool involves:

  • Balancing the water chemistry
  • Lowering the water level as recommended
  • Draining and storing pool equipment
  • Installing a winter cover
  • Removing any debris

How long does an inground pool installation take?

Fiberglass inground pools are typically complete within a few weeks of excavation, since the shell arrives pre-formed.

Gunite and vinyl liner inground pools take longer because they are built on site, with timelines depending on design complexity, weather, and surrounding hardscape work. We provide a project roadmap up front so you know what to expect at each stage.

How long does it take to install an above-ground pool?

The installation timeline for an above-ground pool can vary based on site preparation, weather conditions, and the complexity of the project. Generally, once the site is prepared, the pool can be installed within a few days. However, obtaining necessary permits and preparing the site may extend the overall timeline.

What site preparation is needed before pool installation?

Site preparation includes selecting a suitable location that complies with local codes, ensuring the ground is level, and removing any debris or obstructions. Floyd Contracting will assess the site, measure the area using precise tools, and advise on any additional costs for ground leveling or other necessary preparations.

What regular maintenance does an above-ground pool require?

Regular maintenance includes:

  • Skimming debris from the surface
  • Brushing the pool walls and floor
  • Vacuuming the pool bottom
  • Checking and maintaining proper water chemistry
  • Running the pool filter for at least 8 hours daily
  • Cleaning the filter system as needed

Consistent maintenance ensures water clarity and extends the life of the pool components.
